This product is known for its beneficial properties, it is appreciated by many pastry chefs, moreover, honey is perceived as an extremely valuable and expensive product. However, does honey have such properties that can harm the human body? Why in some cases honey cannot be eaten and why it cannot be heated? That is what we will talk about in our article.
Can honey harm
Many people have heard about the beneficial properties of honey, but people forget about the harmful properties.
- First of all, you need to remember that honey is a fairly high-calorie product. It is several times more caloric than sugar, the approximate content in 100 grams of honey is 300 kilocalories. In defense of honey, it should be said that, contrary to popular belief, honey is not at all very harmful to the figure. Of course, this high-calorie product can add weight to you, but it is not as harmful to the body as many people think. All this is due to the fact that honey contains special enzymes that break down fat.
- Honey, like all sweet foods, contributes to the development of caries. On the other hand, honey is a product that has antibacterial properties. But still you should not abuse it, otherwise you will create a breeding ground for bacteria that provoke tooth decay.
- The biggest problem of honey is the high content of allergens. Therefore, it is not recommended to use for people who are allergic to pollen, because honey may contain its particles.
- Finally, it should be said about the heat treatment of honey. Excessive heating of honey (over 40 °) leads to the loss of its beneficial qualities. And when heated to over 70 °, a very dangerous substance, oxymethylfurfural, begins to be produced in it. Its high concentration can adversely affect the human body, this poison is practically not excreted from the body, accumulating in the liver and leading to disruption of biochemical processes, depression of the nervous system.
