I was also afraid to shoot the sun at one time, I had been reading that the bright sun could damage the DSLR matrix. And it seems to me that it is better not to risk it. I can say from experience. when there was an ordinary soap dish, everything clicked, I didn’t think at all, but then it began to shoot worse - noise was added. I do not know what is the reason))) But now I only remove the sun with a special ND-filter with a DSLR, I'm afraid to spoil it!)) I also do not float the sun with a long exposure, if you use the short one, then nothing bad will happen! And do not look into the viewfinder when you are shining the sun, just ruin your eyes! I have a lot of pictures of the sun both at the zenith and at sunset ... while everything is OK!
Yes! even though they write and say that the technique becomes more powerful and all that, but it also becomes more tender, requires more care and caution. Better that direct sunlight does not fall on the lens. Be careful.
