What is a cesspool?
The word "cesspool", derived from the Latin cloaca, has several meanings. One of them is close in meaning to the word "sewage". It is also used in a figurative sense, meaning some very dirty, foul-smelling place (garbage bin, public toilet).
However, this word is used in other areas of life. So what is a cesspool in zoology? This is the name of the posterior part of the rectum, into which the urinary canal and the duct leading to the sexual products (eggs, semen) are also opened. There is it in certain species of fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
