Recently, against the background of the general enthusiasm for handicrafts, designers began to intensively master more and more new handicraft techniques, and we now increasingly hear such unknown words as freeform, decoupage, fusing or scrapbooking from all sides. Although these words are now widely known, not everyone knows what they mean. For example, do you know what is hidden behind the sonorous foreign word “scrapbooking”? If not, then in order to fill this gap in your knowledge, we will tell you about scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking: what it is and why it is needed
In our world it is generally difficult to invent something completely new - as a rule, it turns out that someone had already invented it. Mysterious scrapbooking is no exception.
As early as the eighteenth century, girls and married ladies of noble birth made albums for poems and compliments and decorated them with pictures and dried flowers. Later, Soviet girls enthusiastically used felt-tip pens to paint their albums with photographs and paste them over with pictures cut from cards or magazines. So, all this was primitive scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking is the production, design and decoration of photo albums elevated to the rank of art. The main goal of scrapbooking is to preserve for many years the memory of anyor important events for each person, such as a wedding or the birth of a child. The album, made using the scrapbooking technique, is not a common storage for photographs. It differs from an ordinary photo album in that, in addition to photographs, there are also other lovely little things (newspaper clippings, old letters, programs, tickets, children's drawings) that remind its owner of the past bright days. Therefore, each such album is a separate story about the past, in which any object, be it a curl of hair, a children's sock or a palm print, has its own special meaning.
Materials and tools for scrapbooking
The main material used in scrapbooking is, of course, paper. This paper can be very different: rough and glossy, monophonic and patterned, embossed, velvet, corrugated and watercolor. In addition to paper, scrapbooking also uses cardboard (thick and thin), tracing paper, tissue paper and kraft paper.
For decorating album pages that just do not use: rhinestones, halvespearls and beads, small shells, ribbons and lace, buttons of all colors and styles, watch wheels, chains - in a word, almost everything is used.
Scissors, curved cutters and punches, various adhesives and markers are the main tools used by all masters of scrapbooking.
