The bill, which provides for the decriminalization of beatings of relatives and other close persons, passed the final reading in the State Duma.
The changes will affect Art. 116 of the Criminal Code (“Beating”). Now violence against close people will not be considered a criminal offense, going over to the category of administratively punishable. However, according to the authors of the amendments, administrative sanctions are provided for quite tough ones: up to 30 thousand rubles of fines, up to 15 days of administrative arrest or up to 120 hours of community service.

In this case, “close persons” means close relatives: spouses, parents, including guardians and carers, children, including adopted children, as well as persons leading a common household with a person.
However, if a person repeatedly commits an offense against a family member, a criminal case will be brought against him.
