History of the creation of Ito-hybrids

Ito hybrids belong to a relatively new grouppions, created in 1958 by Japanese breeder Toichi Ito by crossing grassy and tree-like varieties of these plants. The scientist managed to deduce a unique kind of perennial peonies with bright yellow flowers. Novel interested in the owner of the New York nursery pions Luis Smirnov, and in 1967 he bought from Ito the right to these unusual hybrids. In 1974, Smirnov, in collaboration with Ito, registered several new hybrid varieties in the American Peony Society.

The American breeders continued to work on the creation of cross-sectional varieties. The plants were separated into a separate group, called Ito hybrids in honor of the Japanese scientist.

To date, several dozenvarieties of hybrid pions with incredibly beautiful flowers, differing in a wide variety of shapes and colors, starting with all sorts of tones of yellow and ending with wine-red and even purple hues. In most varieties, the color of the petals is contrast, which makes them even more attractive.

In 1991, the American breeder RogerAnderson pioneered Julia Rose. Reviews of professional florists about this novelty were the most enthusiastic and quickly spread not only throughout America, but also in Europe. By now, this unique variety of pions has won the love and recognition of growers around the world.

Distinctive features of Ito-pions

  • The plants have high stalks capable of holding large flowers in an upright position, not bending under their weight, so the bushes do not require a garter.
  • Ito-peonies grow rapidly and are characterized by abundant flowering: more than four dozen flowers can form on a mature bush.
  • The color of the intersection pions is much larger than that of other varieties, and can reach up to 25 cm in diameter.
  • All plants are characterized by a long flowering period.
  • Foliage in hybrid plants is not afraid of colds, unlike its grassy "relatives", and retains an attractive appearance until frost.

Peony Ito Hybrid Julia Rose is blooming withearly May until mid-July. Flowers with a delicate characteristic aroma - semi-matt, semi-double, silky, reaching about 20 cm in diameter. Their color varies depending on the stage of dissolution, passing from crimson-red to orange-pink, and then to delicate peach-yellow tones. In the middle of the flower there are yellow stamens.

As you can see in the photo, the pion Julia Rose in the midstbloom looks especially effective, because in one bush there are simultaneously flowers of different colors, which is due to their age difference. Because of the ability to change the color palette of petals at certain stages of growth, this variety is also called a chameleon.

Soil for the cultivation of Ito hybrids

Peony Julia Rose loves the fertile, the richhumus and well drained soil. When choosing a site for planting plants, it is necessary to exclude areas on which even temporary water stagnation is possible, for example, after spring snowmelt and autumn rains. The fact is that this Ito-hybrid variety does not tolerate overmoistening - roots, flooded with water, quickly rot, which causes the death of the plant.

In addition, the use of peat in any form is strongly discouraged. The soil acidity level (pH) should be in the range of 6.5-7.0.

External conditions

Peony Julia Rose - the plant is not particularly whimsical,A disease-resistant and well-tolerated winter. However, like any other representative of the flora, it needs certain conditions for growth. The site for planting should be not only cultivated and well drained, but also located in a place protected from the wind. In this case, it should be taken into account that this type of hybrid pions does not tolerate the absence of sunlight and simply will not bloom in the shade. Thus, bushes should be placed in well-lit places or slightly shaded places.

Pion Transplantation

Plant transplantation is carried out at the end of summer or inearly autumn. The planting pit must be digged to a depth of approximately 70 cm, and its width should be at least 50 cm. The roots of the pioneer Julia Rose can develop correctly only in loose soil, penetrating to a depth of 80 cm. In a hard ground, the rhizome begins to expand to the sides, spreading in the upper layers of the soil and experiencing a deficit of moisture and nutrients. Naturally, the wrong location of the root affects the growth and development of the plant.

When transplanting several bushes the distance between them should be at least 1.5 meters.

At the bottom of the landing pit, a drainagelayer. To do this, it is covered with a mixture of rubble, broken bricks and sand in a layer of 15 cm. Then organic and mineral fertilizers must be introduced into the soil. To do this, prepare a dry "cocktail" from humus, compost, a small amount of lime, superphosphate, wood ash and potassium sulfate. All this is mixed with the earth from the pit and fills it in half. Planting pions is performed after the subsidence of the soil, after 10-12 days.

Peony Julia Rose Description

The root is lowered into the pit and covered with the remaining earth, slightly ramming it. The top point of growth should be buried no more than 3 cm.

Often, after a graft, pyo Ito Julia Roselooks slightly faded and does not please color in the first season. It is explained by the transferred stress, after which the pion needs a certain time for complete restoration. It is highly undesirable to transplant Ito hybrids in the spring, as they do not have the energy and time to restore before the flowering period begins.

Hilling

In addition to the "right" soil and the required depthplanting, a very important role is played by periodic peony uptake. This procedure is necessary because the rhizome of this hybrid tends to build new shoots upwards, and after a year or two most of them are above the ground, suffering from heat or cold. That's why the plants must necessarily be planted to the required height. Especially carefully this procedure should be carried out in the autumn in order to avoid freezing of the roots.

In addition, although the plant and frost-hardy, but not hinder the additional shelter of the roots.

Pruning plants

Cut the flowering peonies, leaving 2/3 of the vegetativethe mass of the plant - its stems and leaves. Their planned pruning is carried out in November, after the first appreciable frosts. Before the onset of cold weather, it is impossible to cut Ito-peonies, since this procedure is harmful to plants.

Cropped leaves and stems must be burned, because they can be the source of spread of diseases and pests.
