Not only the public, but also many experts are seriously surprised by the resignation of Alexei Kudrin. However, the minister himself says that he had already planned this step long ago.
Alexey Kudrin is one of the iconic ministers of the current Russian government. It is therefore not surprising that the news of his resignation caused such a wide resonance. On this occasion, many of the most unpredictable versions have appeared, which, in total, do not explain the main thing: why everything happened as it happened. And to stop growing rumors at once, Kudrin hurried to make an official explanation for his resignation.
Of course, the reason was not only a bold statement in Washington. This statement was, rather, only an occasion. Despite the seeming emotionality of his resignation, Kudrin said that this decision was weighed. And even gave several reasons:
- serious risks remain that the 2011 budget will not be executed. And the reason is simple. Kudrin sees the problem in that the government has assumed excessive obligations in the social sphere and defense policy. Of course, this will not slow down the impact on the deterioration of the entire economy of the country. In particular, for this reason, the ex-minister discussed his resignation in February of this year. But then the resignation was recognized as untimely.
- After it became known about Putin’s plans for 2012, Kudrin finally decided to officially declare his position.
- Rumors that Kudrin will be generally somehow connected with the “Right Cause” have remained rumors. In his official statement, the former minister explained to all those interested that in any case he was not going to go to the opposition.
Kudrin's resignation, in fact, is already a fact. Much more acute now will be the question of who will be the new Minister of Finance. The experts have not even really made clear predictions. And yet there are the first candidates who, at least, are now closer to the ministerial chair:
- Sergey Ignatiev (head of the CBR, former Deputy Minister of Finance),
- Sergey Shatalov (Deputy Minister of Finance),
- Tatyana Golikova (Minister of Social Development and Health),
- Arkady Dvorkovich (Assistant to the President for Economic Affairs),
- Mikhail Zadornov (President of VTB 24 Bank),
- Sergey Aleksashenko (Director of Macroeconomic Research at the Higher School of Economics).
