How to crimp the cable?
For proper operation of any local network, they use a cable (“twisted pair”), thanks to it you can connect a large number of computers into one whole (network), as well as connect special network devices (switches, routers, routers, modems). In order for the cable to work, you need to attach a connector to it. What is a connector?
So, before you compress the network cable, understand for yourself that the connector is a specially designed standard physical connector for connecting various telecommunication devices. These connectors exist in several interfaces: RJ11, RJ14, and also RJ45, which are most often used.
Manual crimping network cable
Sometimes there is a problem when you have a network cable, but you cannot use it because it is not crimped or you do not have a special tool. It is about this problem that will be discussed in this article. But first, in order to know how to crimp a cable without a tool, you need to understand the main thing that the performance of your network depends on the quality of compression of a network cable. That is, if your connector will press badly, clamp the wiring of a twisted pair, all the worse, your network will work intermittently. From the intensity of information transfer and in case of unsuccessful / incorrect crimping, the connector may heat up or simply fail.
After the organizational issues, we give step-by-step instructions on how to properly crimp the cable at home, without having special tools. To do this you need a knife and a regular screwdriver.
- It all starts with the fact that you need to strip the top insulation that covers the cable. To do this, measure the distance required for the connector - 1.5 centimeters should be enough, mark this place. Also pay attention to the fact that in the middle of the cable a kapron thread can pass, with its help you can also measure the distance you need. Pull it aside and pull towards yourself (from the end of the cable) to the desired distance, then twist the thread around the cable, thus securing it. If there is no such thread, do this step carefully with a knife.
- Next, straighten out all the wiring that peeks out of isolation. Pay attention to the sequence of placement of these wires.Choose a sequence that matches your connection type. Next, check whether the distance is sufficient, the lengths of these wires, so that they would completely fit into the connector. If yes, then begin to gently insert the wiring into the corresponding grooves of the connector. This must be done until it stops. Also note that you need to wind the cable into the connector so that the outer sheath of the cable gets into the connector clip. Hold the cable close at hand and press the RJ45 clamp itself with a screwdriver.
- After that you see that the wiring is in the slots of the connector, but not yet connected to its contacts. This is the most important stage of cable crimping. Next you need to flip the tip contacts to you. Here you need to be very careful and feel the moment when the wire sat on its groove, plus the contact removed the insulation from it, exposing the core. Perform this operation with a screwdriver, pressing it on the contact. Make sure that all the wiring sit in their places, forming one flat line. Do not allow irregularities or bends in twisted pair wiring in the middle of the connector.
- You can also put a special cap on the cable, if, of course, you have it at hand.It closes the place of contact of the connector with insulation and it looks beautiful.
So you know how to crimp the cable, use only a knife and a screwdriver.
