How to connect a heating boiler?

Comfortable life in a private home is hard to imagine without heat. In order for your house to be warm even in the freezing cold, you need to equip the house with a heating system.

The heating system, as a rule, is of two types: dry (electric underfloor heating, convectors, etc.) and liquid (water heated floors and radiators). The heart of any heating system in which fluid circulates is the boiler.

Kinds of boilers

The boilers are divided into electric, gas, solid fuel, etc. The general connection scheme for all boilers is the same - it is necessary to connect the “supply” of the heating system to the boiler outlet and “return” to the input. "Flow" is the section of the pipeline through which the heated coolant flows from the boiler into the system to the heating devices (radiators), and "return flow" means the pipe through which the cooled coolant flows back to the boiler for further heating.

Electric boiler

To understand how to properly connect an electric heating boiler, you need to look into the boiler passport, which indicates:

  • possible location of the boiler (horizontal or vertical location);
  • boiler power and electrical wiring diagram;
  • the location of the supply and return pipes of the heating system, as well as the drain and filler pipes (if any);
  • fire protection requirements (in general, these requirements relate to the base on which the boiler is planned to be located - the wall must be made of durable and non-combustible materials).

After studying the passport of the device you will only have to comply with these requirements.

A gas boiler

It is more difficult to connect a gas boiler than an electric one, since besides all the requirements related to an electric boiler, it is also necessary to bring a gas pipe to the gas boiler and bring a simple chimney. As a rule, the gas boiler is installed and connected by specialists who supply the gas pipeline to your house.

Most gas boilers have 5 output pipes: one for connecting the gas, two for connecting the supply and return of the heating system, and two more for the inlet and outlet of the hot water supply system (hot water supply).

It is the function of heating water for the hot water system (in addition to heating) and the low price of gas that make gas boilers the most preferable option when choosing a heating boiler.The only limitation is the presence of a gas pipeline.

Solid fuel boiler

Solid fuel boiler also has its own nuances. Firstly, solid fuel boilers are always of the floor type (as opposed to gas and electric, which are mainly wall mounted). Secondly, more stringent fire prevention requirements are applied to the solid fuel boiler, since an open flame is possible (during the addition of fuel). And to the solid fuel boiler it is necessary to bring more complex chimney (compared to the gas boiler chimney, in which there is a fan). Everything else is similar. You should also look into the product passport to clarify all the details of connecting the boiler to the heating system.
