How to change the desktop picture?

Tired of old wallpaper on your desktop? Want some brand new pictures? Our article will help to consider several options for changing the wallpaper, depending on the installed operating system.

How to change the desktop picture on Windows XP

So, the photo or picture that you want to place on the desktop of the computer is already stored in one of the directories of your computer:

  1. Click on the "Start" button and in the menu that opens, select "Control Panel". Double click on the screen icon. This window can also be opened by clicking with one click of the right mouse button on any place on the screen and choosing "Properties" in the appeared menu.
  2. In the "Screen" window that opens, go to the "Desktop" tab. Here you can either choose one of your favorite wallpapers or use the Browse button to find your saved photo or picture and open it.
  3. The picture or photo you selected will appear inside the monitor image in an open window so that it can be edited before saving the changes. You can choose three options from the Location list:
    • "in the center" (the picture will be located in the center of the desktop);
    • “pave” (several copies of the picture will fit on the desktop like cobblestones on the pavement);
    • "stretch" (the picture is completely stretched across the desktop).
  4. Click "OK" to save the changes. Now on your desktop there are new wallpapers!

How to change the desktop picture on Windows Vista and Windows 7

Suppose that the photo or picture that you want to place on the desktop of the computer is also stored in one of the directories of your computer, as in the first case:

  1. Again, click on the "Start" button and select the "Control Panel" menu. In the window that opens, we find "Change the desktop background image" and click on it once.
  2. In the "Select a desktop wallpaper" window that opens, either choose one of the background images offered by the system, or use the "Browse" button to find the photo we have saved and open it.
  3. In the "How to place a picture" submenu, you can also choose three options for positioning the picture:
    • "in the center" (the picture will be located in the center of the desktop);
    • "stretch" (the whole picture will stretch across the desktop);
    • "tile" (multiple copies of the picture will occupy the entire space of the desktop).
  4. As a result, click "OK" to save all changes. A new photo has appeared on your monitor screen!
