From the historical past of the Theater "D"

The Dzhigarkhanyan Theater (its address is Lomonosovsky Prospect, 17) often tours in other cities of Russia.Over the 20 years of its existence, the troupe visited such locations as Saratov, St. Petersburg, Cherepovets, Lipetsk, Perm and others. Artists visited in countless cities of the Moscow region.

Originally, the Jigarkhanyan Theater was called the “D” Theater. It was founded in the early spring of 1996. The base of the then troupe consisted of graduates of VGIK, whose course was led by Armen Borisovich. Then the institution was located in a tiny, located on the Cooperative Street, a room with a small auditorium. The first performance of the troupe was Professor Jigarkhanyan’s one-man show “Krapp’s Last Tape” by S. Beckett. Then there were premieres of such performances as “The Twelfth Night, or As You Like,” “And the Theater Lives!”, “Mozart and Salieri” and others. The repertoire of the institution included plays for children, for example, “Good Country Australia” and “Ali Baba and Forty Thieves”.

This is a very diverse repertoire, which even venerable theaters are not always able to master. But the young troupe successfully implemented the difficult task that was set for them. The performances have gained unprecedented success with both the public and critics, and Dzhigarkhanyan himself has proved himself to be an extraordinarily talented teacher.

Gazarov's troupe

Armen Borisovich in his theater in 1998 invited Sergey Gazarov to the position of chief director. Together, they throughout the 1998-1999 season almost completely renewed the troupe. So, of the artists who "opened" the institution, today only Peter Stupin and Alexei Shevchenko remained. Also, the “first” sound engineer Mrs. Gridneva and the head of the costume shop Margarita Cheres work to this day. The leading actors from the “second set” are now V. Kapustin, Y. Anpilogov, A. Bukharov, D. Nadtochy and A. Annenkov. The basis of the modern repertoire was laid by the play “The Inspector-General” based on the play by Nikolai Gogol. The director of the show was S. Gazarov.

In the 1999-2000 season, the Dzhigarkhanyan Theater is replenished with artists such as S. Eventov, E. Ksenofontova, V. Chetkov, E. Medvedev, I. Gordienko and A. Bashenkova. At this time, the play "Returning Home" is being released, in which the main role was played by Dzhigarkhanyan, and the children's production of "The Tale of a Learned Cat." The release of the last engaged Alexei Kiryushchenko. The following season, Gazarov leaves the post of chief director.

Moving to a new building

Armen Dzhigarkhanyan Theater by 2002 was already an incredibly successful institution. In November of this year, the temple of Melpomene moves to a new building.It is located in one of the most picturesque areas of the Russian capital - on the Sparrow Hills. In this building there used to be a theater called Progress. In the new building, a theater under the direction of a star is able to accommodate a much larger number of spectators. After all, there can fit five hundred persons.

Together with the large premises, the Armen Jigarkhanyan Theater was able to make its repertoire more extensive. Now, in addition to the popular drama performances, the public has the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful vaudeville “And the theater lives!”. Also produced productions for young viewers.
